7dragoon's R6 Tips

Preface

I consider myself to be a "Newbie" still in many ways (at least I'm not bored :-). But these are a few things I've learned the Hard way, that I wish someone had told me. If you can use some of this, great! If you can't, don't! I offer this info only to help, if you have Additions or Corrections, Email me using link at bottom and I will give you credit!

Single Player Tips

When I begin playing, I always do 2 things.

1: I hit the [ key until the little map in the bottom left corner of my map shows more than just 5 feet in ea. direction. If you have heartbeat sensor support in your mission, the more map you show, the further away you see the bad guys, no? Also, even if you don't have HBS, you can see what is coming as far as turn's, etc. in time to plan.
2: I tap the > key 3 times to put myself in 3 shot burst mode (May very according to weapon). I don't know if you've done this, but the stupidest feeling I ever have in R6 is too open the door ... or turn the corner ... line the Tango up in my sights ... squeeze the trigger ... and BLAM, he takes the top off my head. As I slide to the floor (I have carpet swatches memorized), I notice that I have 0 rounds left. Don't be a victim of "Empty Magazine Syndrome", Conserve ammo, and hit the Delete key to refill whenever you get a quiet moment. On the more practical side, 1 shot doesn't always equate 1 kill, while full auto is less accurate than single shot. Three shot burst is a happy medium.

More on Heartbeat Sensors (HBS)

The HBS in R6 is a marvelous device (Thank God the Tangoes don't have them)! In most of the Missions, you have HBS support, which means you can open the map (#1 above), Head for the Red dots, shoot the red dots making them Dark red dots, Save the world for capitalism, and Go have a beer. Ok, it's not that easy. 1st, it senses MOTION! the really lazy tangoes ... leaning against the wall ... in the blind corner, don't show up till they shoot you. In other missions, you don't have HBS support. this makes things ?more? fun. You have to carry one. Worse, you have to put the gun down to use it. 3d, the handheld model is directional! So, you have to open the map (M key) or expand your mini map (#1 again), and spin in a circle to find the bad guys, If they are moving... Then, when you pick your gun back up, all the red dot's dissapear! (Lots more fun this way)!

Fire and Movement! (or Places to Go, People to Kill)

So, your map is open, your fly is closed, on 3 shot burst, GTG. you open the door and BLAM ("Hmm..New carpet"). What went wrong? "Ahhso, weed hopper .. Did you zoom the map BACK in to see which way the tango was facing"? .."but".. "But nothing, you will find the [ key & his brother ] to be good friends indeed". if you make the map small again, the circles have arrows showing their facing. In some places, you can sit and wait for the bad guy to walk into your line of fire (commonly called "Camping" in Multiplayer). In others, you can edge around the corner and see his gun or arm, wait till he turns, and Blam ("Take That"). But sometimes, there is no safe path, and thats why Tom Clancy has guys like us! So just KEEP MOVING .. till you see the target, then shoot the target (see: Fire & Movement). The idea is for the Terr to only see YOU for a split sec. before HE gets to see the carpet, LESS time than he can aim & fire. Some of the prefered ways are the "RUSH" (Watch the intro movies, see the guy using his MP5-SD as a Ram?), and the "Slide" (Just hit the Right or left arrow to .."cruise sideways past the door ...Firing all the way .. oh what fun...")

Ettiquette (Was Miss Manners really a Marine)?

There are basically 2 modes to Multiplayer, Cooperative & Adversarial. That said, being Adversarial to the people you are playing with (Outside of shooting the other team), will lead to the R6 version of leprosy. The Host makes the rules in game. If you don't like them, go find another game. Whoever is hosting may be the nicest guy in the world, or he may be a jerk, But you won't impress him OR the other players with "gogogogogogo" or "stupid map, change it". Time is of the essence online, so sometimes things happen too quick for us, so perhaps you wind up in the airport with a shotgun and get sniped. 1st, hit "page down" and watch your teammates, you might learn a trick or two and it's better than carpet. 2nd, as soon as game is over, type "weap chg pls" or words to that effect. Normally the 1st thing you type after coming back should be gg (Good game), or GS Dragoon (Good shot to the guy who shot you) or WTG (Way to go). Friendly Fire ISN'T! When the game begins, the right box on your bar shows the color uniform you have on. Don't shoot people with the same tailor! One last thing, which not everyone does. At the beginning of the game, when you see the screen, but can't move yet, Tap the " key then "Enter" key. You'll see your name in the upper L corner of the screen. This is "logging in". It gives SOME comparison of latency, and in a "Laggy" game, being the last guy to log in may make you the candidate for the boot. it also lets everyone know you're awake and semi-functional. Basically, if you see everybody elses name scroll by, Start doing this. I always do, but I'm "lag sensetive". So, to sum up... Don't shoot your teammates (It's expected that you shoot your friends if theyr'e not on your team)& be nice the rest of the time (It keeps 'em guessing) and you should have more & more friends lining up to be shot (Hmmm).

Forget what you learned in School, this is the Street!

That's Right. All those lessons SinglePlayer taught you, hah! (Not so fast, remember Dragoons advice about maps, 3shot burst, and moving from the top of the page). BUT, People on the Zone or Mplayer are NOT like the Tangoes in R6. They know you are out there, They're looking to give you the third eye, and They are smart, mean and MOVING!! If you stop and pull your HBS out, start spinning to see whats out there.... It will show up as a red dot moving FAST at you. You may even get your gun back in your hand before admiring the carpet, but just barely. That said, Always bring your HBS, just don't use it like the mapsco (Pull over, yawn, riffle the pages, etc). Ideally, you are in a team, (1) guy has his HBS on (Oh... You didn't know the whole team can use 1... ) and the rest of you are rushing towards that red dot in a corner (He hasn't read this yet). if you don't function as part of a well - oiled team, my advice is duck down a hall, behind a closed door and use it QUICKLY to get a bead, zip back up and emerge to save the day. The other side, If you sit still, someone will HBS you, sneak up ... and BLAM (Wow they have the same carpet here). The point is that people (especially those who play this game), are not predictable like the tangoes in R6.
